This second wave of spam in the form of trackbacks from 230 splogs constitutes a malicious attack that was pre-meditated and launched in retalliation of my article yesterday.

Although this kid’s hacking is rank amateur, the problem is that like any criminal, his level of sophistication will grow as he becomes more experienced which is why filing a report with the FBI is essential to allow them to initiate a take-down and arrest.

It boggles my mind that somebody would openly engage in these criminal activities and risk imprisonment at a time when the governments of the world are targeting internet crime more than street crime.

So, Mr. ShadySEO - You still think Bompa is in the right and this article is so hilarious ??

Maybe the geezer overdosed on Viagra and Geritol the day he decided to referrer spam bomb all of us at DP. I’m still pretty pissed about the 230+ trackbacks from phony blog posts he created this morning to get back at me for this post. A real man would have had the balls to come and defend himself but David Benware is a bad as a 15 year old kid with his little bot attacks. I see he was asking about programming back in 2000 devshed and he said he was experimenting with IRC bots in Perl. Well, nice way to spend your retirement.

What I’m worried about is he’s linking to me from his bad neighborhoods with Viagra and other spam.

I’ll make sure to contact Google through the webmasters tools and let them know that it’s some weezer Google bowling my site. Some of us don’t need Black Hat techniques to get great rankings and ample organic traffic. I just hope gramps knows when to cut his losses and turn tail and waddle away (but carefully so he doesn’t break a hip or something).

@Dave: You gave a level headed response, so I’ll do the same for you. There’s a difference in scale behind castle cops, or the one earlier against blue frog. Scale. Those were pushing gigabytes of data per second into their hosts. Not 230 trackbacks. I mean, if that’s what we’re going for I’ve gotten almost that amount of referrer spam from live.com today(yes, from Microsoft’s IP blocks)
As for why somebody would risk it, I’d say it’s because the feds traditionally don’t investigate computer crime unless the damage is into the thousands of dollars, and isn’t gray area. The provable damage in this case is far from the thousands, and is still definitely gray area.

I’m not saying there’s zero merit to what you say. But in my opinion, unless you’re running this thing off of a 28.8kb modem, it’s a bit out there to call it a DDOS attack.

Also, the 230+ trackbacks are from splog posts with the same content in which Bompa links to my article from each post. The contents of those splogs is mostly Viagra, penis enlargement and other spammy content Google would consider a bad neighborhood. He sets up a few sites to look like it’s a blog nework (such as Wordpress or Blogger) and he auto-posts the articles which creates a flurry of incoming links which can get a site sandboxed in a hurry. I use purely organic seo, all White Hat and I don’t like the idea Bompa posted the exact same article with a link to me on over 230 splogs (and that was the count when I cut him off, God only knows how many he really did). As an SEO, you know what I’m saying, if this guy tries to ruin the work I’ve done over the last two years, he’ll seriously regret it because I don’t play tit for a tat hack me back games, when I see a problem, I get the authorities involved.

OK, The referrer spamming - Bompa got called out and made fun of but he should have been a man and just taken it in stride. He should have left well enough alone but his trying to purposely cause damages to my serps, which are my business and the way I make money, makes him a definite threat to myself and other webmasters.

I hope you can understand my position on this whole scenario. In my opinion, wrong is wrong. I really don’t care if Bompa games Google or uses Black Hat techniques - more power to him if it makes him money - that is my attitude AS long as he doesn’t mess with my sites or me in the process.

btw, I personally enjoy reading your blog and I do subscribe to your RSS feed, however, I have to admit I’m not a fan of WickedFire because of all the profanity and immature discussions that go on there. Your use of Digg as an anology is flimsy at best because Digg sends legitimate traffic to a website, not a bot automated wave of traffic.

Obviously you know nothing at all because the response I got from Google was that there were too many backlinks from bad neighborhoods built up in short time and that my PR would be back to normal by the next update. In the meantime, my SERPS are stronger than ever.
