Blog Post WidgetBucks improves MerchSense algorithm to help publishers earn Higher Yields

Posted in CPM Networks, CPC Networks, Hybrid Networks by Dave on the February 23rd, 2008

Earn $$ with WidgetBucks! The ever popular affiliate program WidgetBucks has announced today that they are tweaking their Merchsense algorithm to generate higher yield for publishers who are running the hybrid CPM display ad/PPC widget combination. The Merchsense program is currently open only to United States and Canada publishers but it seems like an effective way to combine CPM with CPC in one ad unit.

The WidgetBucks Merchsense concept is similar to a publisher utilizing a CPM (where publishers are paid per 1000 banner impressions) with a back-up CPC (where publishers are paid per visitor click). If a fill rate is not reached in the CPM and their is no banner to show, the ad fails over to the CPC ad (or any other ad that a publisher has set as a backup). The significant difference with WidgetBucks concept is that you don’t have to use two affiliate programs (for tracking alone, it’s a timesaver) and that publishers essentially have two ways to earn from one ad spot.

In the first case scenario, if your CPM program shows a banner and your visitor is not interested, that ad spot is shorted. If your CPM network doesn’t have an ad to fill the spot and instead fills it with your PPC ad and a visitor doesn’t click. You’ve earned nothing. However, with WidgetBucks MerchSense, your visitor is shown the CPM ad for a short period of time and then the regular CPC ads wil show. If a CPM ad is shown, you earn. If the visitor is still on your page when the CPC ads load and clicks one of them, you earn two times. Once for the CPM the visitor was shown and once for the CPC ad the visitor clicked !!

Here’s a bit from the official WidgetBucks blog:

blockquote Behind the scenes at WidgetBucks we’ve been working to improve MerchSense, our contextual algorithm. One way we’re doing this is by implementing YieldSense(tm), which is technology that automatically generates the highest possible yield for publisher ad placements, and we’re nearly ready to publish the first phase of these improvements. Starting as early as this weekend or Monday, U.S. and Canada visitors on sites that are running MerchSense will begin seeing short-duration display advertising running before WidgetBucks’ traditional shopping widgets. This hybrid CPM display ad/PPC shopping widget combination is intended to help improve effective CPM (eCPM), while maintaining a great e-commerce experience through our widgets.

Blog Post AdDynamix - CPM Network

Posted in Affiliate Programs, CPM Networks by Dave on the January 10th, 2008

AdDynamix If you’re interested in monetizing your unsold ad inventory and are looking for a secondary network to fill spaces, AdDynamix could possibly be what you’re looking for. AdDynamix is well established CPM (cost per mille) program that has an impressive fill rate and is used by many of the biggest websites on the internet. With CPM network programs, there are no clicks to count, no product conversions for commissions and nothing to sell or promote. You are paid for banner impressions, so all you need is traffic to maximize your earning potential.

Some details from their website

blockquote AdDynamix is one of the most trusted, long-standing online ad networks around. We help Web Publishers, such as yourself, maximize their revenue generating opportunities by providing a comprehensive yet flexible solution. Whether you need a fully outsourced sales force or are looking for an extension to your existing team, AdDynamix Network provides Web Publishers software and services to generate and maximize revenue from their ad inventory. Streamline your efforts and focus on adding value to your online property with our help.

Few advantages of being an AdDynamix Network Publisher:

  • Maximization of all your unsold inventory
  • Online and in business since 1997
  • Fortune 500 Advertisers
  • Audited and Certified Technology
  • No exclusionary contracts
  • The best payout rates in the industry to ensure your profitability
  • Access to top advertisers with new ones added daily
  • All ad management handled for you by advanced AdDynamix(sm) technology, including ad rotation, auditing, Real Time reporting, and more.

Coupled with another CPM program such as ADSDAQ that allows unfilled space to be filled with other network ads, AdDynamix can give you a boost in your overall fill rate. You might have noticed that on this blog, I’m using ADSDAQ as my primary CPM banner network for the 728×90 banners at the top of every page. As my secondary network, I’m using Google Adsense but due to issues with Adsense unfairly banning publishers for invalid clicks and the general poor earnings from Adsense, I’ve switched to a CPM model to fill portions of my ad space. The great thing about these CPM networks is they allow you to specify the secondary network, so now it is possible for me to use ADSDAQ as my primary ad service, specify AdDynamix as my secondary fill in my ADSDAQ control panel and then specify Adsense as my secondary in my AdDynamix control panel (which actually makes Adsense the tertiary fill if no ads are available from ADSDAQ or AdDynamix).

I highly recommend any publishers currently using *only* Adsense to switch to a hybrid model of CPM ads with Adsense used as filler. Using this model will not only increase your earnings, it will provide a safety valve in case of unfair banning by Google Adsense and you won’t be left with empty pockets if that happens.

Blog Post ADSDAQ - CPM Publisher Network

Posted in Affiliate Programs, ADSDAQ, CPM Networks by Dave on the November 19th, 2007

Every now and then a new affiliate program comes along that I’m just totally excited about. My most recent discovery and favorite new affiliate program is (by ContextWeb). The program offers a CPM model which refers to advertising bought on the basis of impression. This is in contrast to the various types of pay-for-performance advertising, whereby payment is only triggered by a mutually agreed upon activity (i.e. click-through, registration, sale). Publishers set their own CPM rate and ADSDAQ matches advertiser to sites based on the publisher set rate. Any unfilled impressions will be automatically redirected to any other network you have set-up in your Selling Desk which means if ADSDQ doesn’t have a banner to match your site a the moment, they will display and Google Adsense, Adbrite or other networks code on your site.

Here are some common questions that are answered in the ADSDAQ Faq.

blockquote How can ADSDAQ let me set my own AskPrice™?
ADSDAQ pays 100% of the Publisher’s AskPrice CPM for all filled impressions and redirects impressions that aren’t sold for their ADSDAQ AskPrice to another paying Backup Tag source specified by each publisher.

What kind of ads are served by ADSDAQ?
ADSDAQ serves primarily graphical ads. Sometimes ADSDAQ will also serve rich media and expandable ads. There are no text ads served by ADSDAQ currently, but we expect text ads to be served starting in Q1 2008.

Can I work with ADSDAQ and Google AdSense?
Yes, our AskPrice technology relies on you working with Ad Networks to make money most effectively. The Google AdSense terms and conditions do not have any exclusivity terms that prevent you from using ADSDAQ either; they simply say “Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads cannot be confused with Google ads.” Since all Google ads have the label “Ads by Google”, and ADSDAQ ads obviously don’t have this label; we don’t conflict with the AdSense Competitive Ads and Services provisions. See the “Competitive Ads and Services” section of the May 2007 updated AdSense Program policies for this specific section:

Can I work with ADSDAQ and a display advertising network like Tribal Fusion or Burst?
Yes, our AskPrice technology relies on you working with Ad Networks to make money most effectively. You should use a network like Tribal Fusion or Burst as the destination of your ADSDAQ Backup Tag.

The minimum payout is $50 on net 30 basis so it shouldn’t take most established sites to reach a payout. Payouts are made through ETF direct Deposit or by check. I’ve been doing quite well with ADSDAQ and I’ll keep integrating their ads on mysites more over time. If you have noticed the new banners at the top of this blog, those are being served by ADSDAQ with my alternative network set to Google Adsense.

At the moment ADSDAQ does not have a referral program, however I did ask the question on their support forum and one of the admins responded that they are currently working on implementing one soon.

If you’re interested in Joining ADSDAQ, please visit their site by clicking on the banner below.

Good Luck
Dave
