Posted in Tech Gadgets, General Internet by Dave on November 20th, 2007

Firefox LogoMozilla has announced the public release of 3 Beta version of their browser. The download is a beta version and on the website they caution “Please note: We do not recommend that anyone other than developers and testers download the Firefox 3 Beta 1 milestone release. It is intended for testing purposes only.”. One of the more fascinating features of this new release is the zoom-whole-page feature that lets you resize all the elements on a page, up or down, including images and form elements. This should be extremely useful on pages where developers use absoulte font-sizings instead of using “em” units which display a font in a percentage of the original size.

Here’s some information on the release from the Firefox Download page :

blockquote New features and changes in this milestone that require feedback include:

* Improved security features such as: better presentation of website identity and security, malware protection, stricter SSL error pages, anti-virus integration in the download manager, and version checking for insecure plugins.
* Improved ease of use through: better password management, easier add-on installation, new download manager with resumable downloading, full page zoom, animated tab strip, and better integration with Windows Vista and Mac OS X.
* Richer personalization through: one-click bookmarking, smart search bookmark folders, direct typing in location bar searches your history and bookmarks for URLs and page titles, ability to register web applications as protocol handlers, and better customization of download actions for file types.
* Improved platform features such as: new graphics and font rendering architecture, major changes to the HTML rendering engine to provide better CSS, float-, and table layout support, native web page form controls, colour profile management, and offline application support.
* Performance improvements such as: better data reliability for user profiles, architectural improvements to speed up page rendering, over 300 memory leak fixes, and a new XPCOM cycle collector to reduce entire classes of leaks.

Testers can download Firefox 3 Beta 1 builds for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux in over 20 different languages. Please be sure to read the full release notes before using this preview release. Developers should look at the Firefox 3 for Developers article on the Mozilla Developer Center.

If you’re ready to test out this new release, please visit the Firexox 3 Beta 1 Download page

I’ve already downloaded my copy for my Ubuntu Linux box and I’m testing it out at the moment and it looks pretty cool !!!

Have Fun !!

I still think Opera is a much better browser when it comes to features.

The only thing I don’t like about Opera is the way it loads images. It reminds me of the old, old Internet Explorer. Plus Opera doesn’t have the SEO plugins I’m used to with Firexos and they don’e have a plugin like Search Status which makes Firefox a better choice for anybody into SEO. Oh, I forgot to mention, the cache explorer plugin for Firefox also kicks ass especiall if you do a lot of graphic design and you go on an icon or clip art listing page, you can just copy the files from your cache instead of messing around right-clicking and downloading them.

I’m not sure where to post this tbh :P . I know people are real edgy with all the blog spam etc. I use to run a blog myself, so I’m aware of the work you actually do to keep this up :D . Anyway point is I thought I’d try and put something back into the community so I’ve written a little plugin folks might like. You can find it if you click through to my website. If you don’t like it just delete this comment. Thanks for your time.

Yeah but you can turn off images off and on in opera in each window very easily, Its all or none in firefox and a big hassle. Plus there is a lot of other cool features that make opera still the best. Opera is just as fast as firefox. Internet explorer is the slug.
