Blog Icon Google Q1 PR Update 2008 - Technorati.com Showing PageRank Zero

Posted in Google Search, Do No Evil by Dave on January 16th, 2008

Most of the blogging community and webmasters on Digital Point and other forums were pretty convinced this recent update had been completed but there are still issues going on such as Technorati.com showing a “greybar” and pagerank N/A when using digpagerank.com to check the various datacenters.

Could it be the update is not completed and Google may still be in the process of updating or has Google now gone after and exacted a punishment on them like they did so many bloggers in the last update ? Many Digital Point forum members are reporting in that their StumbleUpon blogs and member pages that once had Pagerank are now zeroed as well. I wonder if Google is going against the Social Networking community now like they did with people selling text links?

What do you think ?

    Url Posted at C4G Forum…

I think Google has flipped their lids with this recent update…Seems Google……

I once said on my site, though now in the bowels of history, that Directories etc will soon get hit by Google and I was right. My feelings are that Google wants things to be natural, by that a blogger sees something and writes about it as opposed to every SEO guy in the world putting the same sort of information, i.e. links on every Social Network going.

If you think about it, if I took a clip of this post, the link is far more valuable than any Social site, Directory even Forum as it is a real vote. What is happening is, Google is looking at all the ways that links are generated and giving them different values, in order to stop people from buying their way to the top and mass producing links by using Social sites as a new style of link farm. With that said, they may one day forget all about links, who knows, now wouldn’t that be interesting?

Lol. I’m actually subscribed to 3 threads on the PR update on DP. Oh well, I personally believe they are still on the process of updating.. and they are not yet done with it. That is why some sites still have no changes .. unfortunately, the only sad thing about PR updates is when your site has a decreased Ranking.

It’s unbelievable, Technorati is still showing a greybar. If anybody has any links to more information on this topic, feel free to post them in your comments here. This blog is always open for discussion and readers here who are supplying a non-spam legitimate link to a related discussion are more than welcome to do so,

I still can’t get over that Technorati is a PR nothing! I checked to make sure it wasn’t just me on the wrong page, my favorites or something and all the pages that I checked were PR nothing.

This has to just be a glitch or a small update window or something.

  7. Dave on January 20th, 2008

Technorati’s blog search blows Google’s away. I think it’s pathetic that Google can’t get their ranking algorithm to work correctly.

  8. Vivevtvivas on January 21st, 2008

Can you even call it a “Blog” search anymore? It’s a RSS search. Anything and EVERYTHING that has an RSS feed is in there and half of it is crappy junk. Nothing filtered and you can hardly find anything good anymore.

I mean, there are only a handful of blog platforms out there, there should be a relatively easy way to finger print them.

Google’s blog search never finds the results I’m looking for and most of it is splogs and other spam crap. It’s easier to find blog posts in the regular Google search than in the blog search.

Shame about technorati getting hit by Google.

  10. Dannielle on January 21st, 2008

Technorati is still coming up as rank zero on my searchstatus plugin. It looks like Google is not going to ammend this mistake or they are punishing Technorati on purpose.

Technorati is still showing up on page one in Google search for the term “blog search” so I don’t think the rank is effecting the se ranking.

WTF is wrong with Google ? My Stumbleupon page is now PR0 and it was PR3 a few days go???? Is google hitting Stumbleupon users also ?

  12. Soegemaskineoptimering on January 21st, 2008

Well guys - we see a lot of fluctuation these days in Denmark in Google and also quite a few changes in PR. I’m not sure what’s going on at Googleplex, but something new is definately happening!

Technorati still at grey - and also ranking high in Danish SERP. Weird…

  13. Vivevtvivas on January 21st, 2008

I guess the lesson here is Pagerank means jack crap and that as long as you are showing up in the SERPs, you’re cool. I watch my Google Webmaster tools religiously anyway.

  14. Freelance programmer on February 19th, 2008

Agree with Vivevtvivas - the public PR does not mean much (same as public links displayed on google by link: operator). SERPs are what count; the google webmaster tools give a different picture for links etc that is much more useful..

I’m very surprised that technocrati did not get any PR back since delicious and feedburner are still PR8.
If technocrati was treated kind of like a link farm, how come delicious and feedburner weren’t ?

Would be really interesting to get Google point on this.

A new pr update end of february. My site went from pr3 to pr4 with many deep pages from pr2 go to pr3. However, I don;t notice any change in traffic.

  18. Lars Bachmann on April 24th, 2008

    Hi david
My site webt from PR3 to PR4 as well, so i am very exited about the next PR update properly in may.

A higher PR dont get you better rank in the SERPS, maybe thats why you dont noticed any change in traffic.

  19. Morten on May 10th, 2008

I’m so exited about me PR going from 3 to 4 ……it looks nice and some of me pages rank better!
