Blog Icon How to Get Indexed by Google

Posted in Everything Google by Dave on July 28th, 2007

Google LogoI see a lot of people complaining that their sites are not after months of going live. I just launched a new site (LolDawgz) Wednesday evening. It’s a blog, and I did spend some time preparing posts prior to launching the site so that I would have several posts on the day it launched. I’m happy to say, the site was indexed by Google, with a few backlinks showing, in under 24 hours after I followed all 10 of the tips below on my “fast seo checklist”.

I’d like to share these tips and tricks with my readers here and for anybody who is interested in learning how to get your site indexed fast. This is not the first site I’ve had indexed that quickly, in fact, every blog or site I launch, or launch for a client has been indexed in 24-48 hours. Please remember what I statedin the paragraph above, that I had already created several posts worh of content prior ro registering the domain, installing Wordpress and launching the blog. I’ve gotten into the habit of launching new sites this way because I had a few bad experiences in the past with sites getting indexed while they were still parked or while they had no content on them. this can easily lead to a site getting for months (which is not a fun thing).

Tips for Getting Indexed By Google

#1 ) Use and add your RSS feed to Feedburner.
#2 ) Submit an article from your blog or website to Netscape
#3 ) Submit your site to Technorati and learn to tag your posts.
#4 ) Submit your blog to BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog
#5 ) Digg (or have someone else) Digg a post from your site
#6 ) Submit your site to Stumbleupon
#7 ) Post your link into the “Reviews” folder at DigitalPoint Forums
#8 ) Add yor site to the Google Webmasters Console
#9 ) Submit a photo album to Flickr and add your URL in your profile
#10 ) Add your site to a few blog directories like BlogRateDirectory
#11) Add Google Adsense to your site
#12) If you’re a blogger, submit your articles to Recommend Us
#13 ) Post on forums and add your site to your signature. A good list of forums is here Best Forums For Social Networking and Gaining Backlinks

Things to avoid:

#1 ) Bulk directory submissions such as “submit express” - you will only end up with an inbox full of spam

#2 ) Don’t spam your site to things like Adlandpro or craigslist
#3 ) Don’t spam other peoples blogs or forums
#4 ) Do Not use pre-written articles or otherwise duplicate content
#5 ) Do not use email spam to promote your site.
#6 ) Do not stuff your site with hidden keywords. Read this article from Matt Cutts - SEO tip: Avoid keyword stuffing

***Please note: if you’re running a spammy site with crap content or a doorway page to an affiliate program, forget about these tips.

Oh no, I think I just gave away the best tips from all those crappy E-Books you might buy on Clickbank for *free* !!!!

How do you submit to netscape and what exactly does it do for you?

  3. Dave on July 29th, 2007

Netscape now has a service similar to Digg where you submit articles and people can vote on them to move them up the ladder. While Digg is mainly technology based, Netscape has more categories for bloggers who have subject matter not related to technology or news. it’s free to signup to the service and you can add a “Submit to Netscape” buttun easily to your blog’s individual posts. After the recent Digg revolution, i’m seeing more people moving overto Netscapes service which is why I ranked it a little higher on the list..

All those things are fine. It still comes down to your business, that’s what it’s all about. Is it accepted?

All this makes sense. I especially like
#4 ) Do Not use pre-written articles or otherwise duplicate content

This is a common problem because of content being sold all over the web to multiple buyers. I started creating blogs recently and I’m keeping my content original, which means I will take longer to build a lot of content, but it will be better in the long run.

    Excellent tips!

If you are just looking for a way for Google to index you, why not register with Google at http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/

I have tried with all my sites, all of them were index by Google between 3 to 5 days.

A little bit longer but you only need to do it once.

  35. Dave on January 13th, 2008

You’re right, adding Adsense does seem to speed up the process of getting a site indexed. After writing this article, I’m noticing it’s much easier to get blogs indexed than regular sites. I think it’s very helpful to put a blog on your site or at least use an RSS feed as a boost.

  37. Chris Martin on March 24th, 2008

Hello Dave - Every other blog I have read about getting indexed by Google has been lacking in information. Your insight into getting indexed is sooooo much better than anything else I have read and your method is totally free. I wish I hadn’t spent money on bulk submission before reading this :-( Thanks Chris.

  38. Michelle on March 24th, 2008

Are pages in the root directory of a site more likely to be indexed by Google than pages 3 levels down (eg. www.zzzz.com/one/two/three/), even if both are directly linked to from the main page (assuming that the pages were identical in every other way)?

    Thanks,

  39. Colema Board on April 4th, 2008

Getting indexed is not hard at all. What I usually do to get indexed is by submitting an article to ezinearticles.com

When we are starting a site, we usually have lots of content and information gathered. We might put all on our site and rewrite it again to submit it too article directories. It usually take less than a week.

Thanks for all the tips. I was surprised by the tips you posted because most of them are not used by me. Thanks again!

  40. Dave on April 4th, 2008

@Colema Board - I never thought of using ezinearticles.com as a way to get indexed. I guess we all have our own little tricks and techniques to get new sites indexed. It’s good to know any extra techniques especially if you’re having a hard time getting one site or another indexed.

@Michelle - Yes, pages in the root directory will almost always take precedence over deep links.

Getting indexed is a cinch. Getting indexed isnt even that big a deal. People look at it as some sort of benchmark, which it isnt.

  47. Roger on July 22nd, 2008

Wordpress will automatically ping search engines whenever you made a post and there is a pros and con in this matter. Btw, digg and nesscape can definately get your site indexed within a day.

  48. Marty on August 15th, 2008

  49. Jan on August 19th, 2008

I think is dosn’t work any more since January 2008. Google have made changes for the RSS-feeds, isn’t it?

  50. Douglas - Murfreesboro SEO on September 2nd, 2008

Getting your site indexed by Google is not a big deal nor is it all that hard. On the other hand i have never had a site indexed in 24hrs…WTG! I launched a site that has about 2700 pages and as of now I have about 500 indexed in about a month, about 100 pages per week. Thanks for the post!

  51. Jamsi on October 10th, 2008

I think the best way to get indexed is by linking from your existing sites… or even better, I found that sites linked from hubpages.com got indexed within 24 hours! Amazing huh.

Good post. Backlinks from dofollow sites/blogs are do most of the work. I dont think Digg is dofollow, however it can get your post into the search engine.

  59. S.W. on April 3rd, 2009

With a combination of links pointing to the new pages or website along with a google site map should do the trick. I have never had a problem getting indexed by google, even sites that have no links get indexed and rank high for my niche keywords. Love the blog!!

  60. Michael on April 5th, 2009

Bulk directory submitters CAN be a good thing. Don’t underestimate that resource. However, it has to be done right, and make sure the submitter is sending your site to reputable directories that won’t spam you.

I’ve been in the web site business for 10 years now. So I do know what I’m talking about here.

  61. Chat on April 12th, 2009

To get indexed all you need is another link from a website that is already in the google index. Very simple. I think the problem is not to get indexed, but be in the first page of google.

  62. Munfaridon on April 13th, 2009

That is good advice, and perhaps you have more idea about how to incrase pagerank beside on that tips ( how to get index by google ), thanks

  63. Shawn on May 20th, 2009

This is interesting to see. I’ve never had a site that was indexed in 24 hrs, and honestly, I’m a bit skeptical (that’s healthy, right?).

I always urge people to first use Google Adwords or other PPC programs to gauge traffic demand instead of the waiting the 30 days or so it takes to realistically get indexed by Google.
